There’s an anecdote that Russians love to tell– I’ve heard it four times already since moving to Saint Petersburg. It goes like this:
“Did you know that the Americans spent $10 million inventing a pen that could write in space? Do you know what the Russians used? A pencil!”
It turns that this is an urban legend, but a fun story nevertheless.
I decided to share this story in light of the recent collaboration between the US and Russian space programs. To think that just 50 years ago, these two countries were engaged in a space race that captivated the world.
Yay for positive US- Russian relations!
